THE OUTDOOR FITNESS TEAM

Barry King
Having grown up in England, Barry King attended the University of Colorado on an athletic scholarship and represented Great Britain in the 1972 Olympic Games. He held several national records and won nationalchampionships in the decathlon, discus and pentathlon, as well as gaining bronze and silver medals in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games.

King became Associate Dean of Students at the University of California, San Diego. In 1977 he helped found Sports Directions, a sports marketing company, which produced Olympic sports development programs for multi-national corporations in South and Central America, the Middle East and Asia. In the U.S. he developed programs for numerous corporate clients, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee.

King joined the U.S. Olympic Committee in 1987 and became Director of Marketing Communications. During 14 years of service he helped secure funding for nine U.S. Olympic Teams and the financing of the Olympics Games in Atlanta and Salt Lake City. USOC direct revenue exceeded $1.3 billion during his tenure. In 2001 he left the USOC and helped form TriActive America which installed outdoor exercise equipment into schools and parks. Now, as President of Outdoor-Fitness LLC., he works to further develop outdoor fitness opportunities and improve fitness for all. King is co-author of a two-book series, published in association with the USOC, entitled The Olympic Challenge.

Yueling Chen
Yueling Chen was the first Chinese person, or Asian woman ever to win an Olympic gold medal in track and field, winning the 10K walk at Barcelona Games of 1992. She attended language school at BYU in 1993/4 before moving to San Diego. She became a U.S. citizen and, after a six-year absence from the track, returned to represent the United States at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

In addition to her Outdoor-Fitness activities, Yueling is a marketing consultant for Imagenetix which produces nutritional products for worldwide distribution. She serves as a spokesperson for Special Olympics International. Throughout considerable media coverage in the United States she has served as a strong advocate for U.S. - China business relations.
