1. Selection and Purchase of Equipment
Customers have numerous options to customize the design of their Outdoor-Fitness facility in keeping with their fitness goals and budget. There are over 50 exercise stations in the Outdoor-Fitness line. A selection of five or more units provides a good introductory layout. The equipment is equally effective when installed as a cluster in a confined exercise area, set along a fitness trail, installed as an outdoor gym, playground, park, or as a training area.
How to purchase: For domestic purchases (USA only): payment may be made by credit card, check, purchase order, or any valid transaction. For international purchases: payment may be made by check, credit card, bank hold, or wire transfer. All major forms of credit cards are accepted, Visa and MasterCard are preferred. Please call (1-877-517-2200) or e-mail (info@outdoor-fitness.com) to place your order with a customer service specialist. For domestic purchases, credit card billing will not occur until the equipment shipping date unless otherwise requested.
2. Design and Layout
Many customers will already have a specific idea of the exercise area they want to achieve. We are, however, available to discuss putting together your outdoor-fitness area. Our customer service specialists are happy to discuss each piece of equipment and its exercise values to help with the most effective choices of equipment for your fitness program and your outdoor-fitness area. We will also provide you with a written quotation confirming the costs of the equipment you are interested in purchasing for your Outdoor-Fitness gym, playground, park, trail or training area.
Following a pending equipment order, if needed, we can also help to provide you with a schematic layout drawing of your outdoor-fitness area, which can be discussed and modified until a final layout concept is reached.
3. Shipping and Delivery
The equipment will be shipped from our warehouse in Denver, Colorado. Shipping costs usually run in the range of 11% to 19% of the total equipment cost for domestic orders and 15% to 35% of the total purchase price for overseas orders. Costs depend on the quantity and weight of the order as well as the location of the order destination, but these can vary. Please call (1-877-517-2200) or e-mail (info@outdoor-fitness.com) for a Quotation of Equipment and Shipping.
Please allow at least 2 to 3 weeks for delivery of domestic orders when all items are in stock. For overseas orders, please allow a minimum of 45 to 60 days for delivery of the equipment once your final order is placed.
The equipment is very heavy and will need at least two strong individuals to help unload. If storage of the equipment is necessary before the installation, it is recommended that the equipment be stored indoors in a dry and secure area until the scheduled installation begins.

4. Surfacing
We encourage the use of excellent surfacing material. School playgrounds have adopted recycled rubber surfacing, either poured in place or as 2-foot square tiles that are glued onto a firm base. We suggest adopting the same safety standards as school playgrounds, especially if the facility is freely accessible to children. Depending on the choice of equipment and the potential fall-height, various thicknesses and colors are available from rubber surface manufacturers.
Good surfacing also extends the fitness capabilities of the system since so many additional exercises, stretching, calisthenics and bounding can be performed on the ideal resilient surface.
Outdoor-Fitness staff will put you in contact with a number of surfacing companies, as requested. We will be able to give you some broad estimates and recommend the best pricing and quality. If requested, we will provide you with at least three competitive bids. Most surfacing companies will have regional representatives to install a poured-in-place area, whereas, the rubber tiles can be more easily installed by the same group that installs the equipment. This is why the tiles are the most common choice.
5. Installation
Outdoor-Fitness Equipment is not complicated to install, although, because of its strength and durability, it is heavy and certainly requires some muscle power.
Full detailed installation drawings and instructions will be provided upon the shipment of your equipment. Installation information is also available for individual pieces on our website under individual equipment pages, Installation Specs.
The skills required are little more than installing an outdoor basketball backboard, or playground equipment. If needed for installation, organizations can use their locally accessible small contractors (for a list of small local contractors that may be able to help you with your installation, CLICK HERE). We will be pleased to discuss the process with them while an installation bid is prepared. If help finding a contractor is needed, there are several professional organizations which provide a resource of skilled contractors such as The National Playground Contractors Association. Fees for the installation of Outdoor-Fitness Equipment are not included in the individual equipment piece price.
The installation of the equipment is mostly a task of preparing the holes for the concrete footings. The equipment is embedded in either 50 or 30 centimeters of concrete. Care and skill are required to make sure the placing of the equipment aligns vertically and horizontally, and that the equipment is level.
If requested, Outdoor-Fitness staff will supervise the installation process. Generally, this is not necessary, and it could add to the cost. Once scheduled, an experienced Outdoor-Fitness staff member will be on call, full-time via cell phone, throughout the installation activities to answer any questions that your installer might have.
Upon receipt of the equipment shipment, if storage of the equipment is necessary before the installation, it is recommended that the equipment be stored indoors in a dry and secure area until the scheduled installation begins.
6. Instructional Information
Basic instructional information is provided in the form of 4 X 6 inch decals (see sample at right) that are affixed to the equipment. These are very sturdy and resistant to the elements. Replacement decals are also available.
The Outdoor-Fitness web site will also be a source of expanding fitness instructional information, where users can gain assistance in devising a program and understanding all the exercise options and techniques.
7. Maintenance
While very little maintenance is required, it is important that someone is responsible for regular inspections. Generally, it is a matter of checking the locking nuts and bolts. Should any equipment failure be evident, these issues will be covered by the warranty information.
Please remember that the Outdoor-Fitness Equipment is steel covered in a durable powder coating. The equipment does require very minimal maintenance, but the equipment should be looked after, and not neglected or treated poorly, for optimal function and resiliency.
Regular inspection and care, such as correctly positioning sprinkler heads, will add to the durability and life of the equipment. For optimal results, maintain the paint surface much like an automobile or vehicle paint surface. Waxing the paint surface (much like the paint job of a car) and using WD-40 in the moving joints on a regular basis can help to increase the life of the equipment.
The powder coating process that is used to cover the steel is a high quality pure polyester powder for electro-static application. It is also the same anti-rust technique used in watercrafts/boating and universally applied in the outdoor painting process.
8. Customer Service

Outdoor-Fitness does not warranty for normal levels of rust. The possibility of rust is a normal occurrence in steel, and requires attention and treatment if rust is noticed or observed on the equipment. Please see Maintenance (section 7.) above. Paint touch up kits are available for maintenance free of charge. Clean any rust spots and apply touch-up paint promptly. For optimal results, maintain the paint surface much like an automobile, vehicle or boat paint surface. An initial supply of touch-up paint is supplied with each shipment.
The powder coating process that is used to cover the steel is a high quality pure polyester powder for electro-static application. It is also the same anti-rust technique used in watercrafts/boating and universally applied in the outdoor painting process.
10. Safety Standards and Certifications
ISO 9001
The factory manufacturing process is ISO 9001 certified. is a quality assurance protocol made up of 20 sets of quality system requirements. This model applies to organizations that design, develop, produce, install, and service products. It provide industry with an international structure to ensure all operational processes, maintain quality, are consistent and effective.
ASTM F-1487 Safety Performance Specification
All Outdoor-Fitness equipment meets the ASTM F-1487 Safety performance specification. The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is a scientific and technical organization that establishes standards for testing of materials, including playground equipment. ASTM also establishes standards for surfacing materials for playground safety. For more information about ASTM standards, visit www.astm.org
Consumer Products Safety Commission
Not all Outdoor-Fitness installations will be considered to be playgrounds. However, in any publicly accessible area, The Playground Safety Standards established by The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) will apply. The CPSC is a federal agency whose charter is to inform the public of unreasonable risks associated with consumer products.
The CPSC has developed safety guidelines for playgrounds which are adopted as law in many States. These standards are published in the "Handbook for Public Playground Safety." This 47-page publication is available for download as a large PDF file (3Mgb), free of charge, at their CPSC web site The hand book provides clear requirements for the need and standard of surfacing material as well as minimum safety zones around each piece of equipment.
