FACILITIES

Step-to-Step to Project Completion

Our goal is to provide phenomenal customer service. It begins with the first call or E-mail and continues throughout the project, through design, installation and programming for your fitness facility.

Below are the sequential steps:
1. Selection of Equipment
  2. Design and layout   3. Shipping  4. Surfacing 5. Installation 6. Instructional Information 7. Maintenance 8. Customer Service 9. Warranty 10. Standards and Certification

1. Selection of Equipment:
Customers have numerous options to customize the design of their outdoor fitness facility in keeping with their fitness goals and budget. There are 27 exercise stations in the Outdoor-Fitness line. A selection of five or more units provides a good introductory layout. The equipment is equally effective when installed as a cluster in a confined exercise area, or set along a fitness trail.

2. Design and layout:
Many customers will already have a specific idea of the exercise area they want to achieve. We are, however, available to discuss each piece of equipment and its exercise values and help with the most effective choices of equipment. Following initial discussions, we can, for example, provide you with a schematic layout drawing which can be discussed and modified until a final layout concept is reached. We will also provide you with a written quotation confirming the costs.

3. Shipping
The equipment will be shipped from our warehouse in Denver, Colorado. Shipping costs tend to run in the range of 11% to 14% of the equipment costs, depending on quantity and destination. The equipment is very heavy and will need, at least two strong individuals to help unload.

4. Surfacing
We encourage the use of excellent surfacing material. School playgrounds have adopted recycled rubber surfacing, either poured in place or as 2-foot square tiles that are glued onto a firm base. We suggest adopting the same safety standards as school playgrounds, especially if the facility is freely accessible to children. Depending on the choice of equipment and the potential fall-height, various thicknesses and colors are available from rubber surface manufacturers.

Good surfacing also extends the fitness capabilities of the system since so many additional exercises, stretching, calisthenics and bounding can be performed on the ideal resilient surface.

Outdoor-Fitness staff will put you in contact with a number of surfacing companies, as requested. We will be able to give you some broad estimates and recommend the best pricing and quality. If requested, we will provide you with at least three competitive bids. Most surfacing companies will have regional representatives to install a poured-in-place area, whereas, the rubber tiles can be more easily installed by the same group that installs the equipment. This is why the tiles are the most common choice.

5. Installation:
Outdoor-Fitness equipment is not complicated to install, although, because of its strength and durability, it is heavy and certainly requires some muscle power.

Full detailed installation drawings and instructions will be provided. The skills required are little more than installing an outdoor basketball backboard, or playground equipment. Most organizations have locally accessible small contractors who can handle the work. We will be pleased to discuss the process with them while an installation bid is prepared. If required, Outdoor-Fitness can also recommend some regional installers. For example, there are several professional organizations which provide a resource of skilled contractors such as The National Playground Contractors Association.

The installation of the equipment is mostly a task of preparing the holes for the concrete footings. The equipment is embedded in either 50 or 30 centimeters of concrete. Care and skill are required to make sure the placing of the equipment aligns vertically and horizontally.

If requested, Outdoor-Fitness staff will supervise the installation process. Generally, this is not necessary, and it could add to the cost. Once scheduled, an experienced Outdoor-Fitness staff member will be on call, full-time via cell phone, throughout the installation activities to answer any questions that your installer might have.

6. Instructional Information:
Basic instructional information is provided in the form of 4 X 6 inch decals (see sample at right) that are affixed to the equipment. These are very sturdy and resistant to the elements. Replacement decals are also available.

The Outdoor-Fitness web site will also be a source of expanding fitness instructional information, where users can gain assistance in devising a program and understanding all the exercise options and techniques.

7. Maintenance:
Maintenance instructions are provided. While very little maintenance is required, it is important that someone is responsible for regular inspections. Generally, it is a matter of checking the locking nuts and bolts. Should any equipment failure be evident, these issues should be covered by the warranty information.

8. Customer Service:
We recognize that the process of building a fitness installation is more than just purchasing the equipment. There are many steps and we will remain as a resource to you throughout the entire process and beyond. Our customers are the best means of promoting the equipment and spreading the notion of improved fitness across the country. We are here to support your program in any way possible. Never hesitate to contact us for assistance.

9. Warranty:
A warranty certificate will be issued upon the purchase of the equipment.

Generally, the terms are as follows:

2-YEAR WARRANTY on plastic or composite parts, seats and fittings, bearings, clamps, weight-lift guide tracks, rubber parts.

5-YEAR WARRANTY on steel posts, all welds, bars, bolts, steel structural equipment.

10. Standards and Certification:

ISO 9001
The factory manufacturing process is ISO 9001 certified. is a quality assurance protocol made up of 20 sets of quality system requirements. This model applies to organizations that design, develop, produce, install, and service products. It provide industry with an international structure to ensure all operational processes, maintain quality, are consistent and effective.

ASTM F-1487 Safety specification
All Outdoor-Fitness equipment meets the ASTM F-1487 Safety performance specification. The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is a scientific and technical organization that establishes standards for testing of materials, including playground equipment. ASTM also establishes standards for surfacing materials for playground safety. For more information about ASTM standards, visit www.astm.org

Consumer Products Safety Commission
Not all Outdoor-Fitness installations will be considered to be playgrounds. However, in any publicly accessible area, The Playground Safety Standards established by The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) will apply. The CPSC is a federal agency whose charter is to inform the public of unreasonable risks associated with consumer products.

The CPSC has developed safety guidelines for playgrounds which are adopted as law in many States. These standards are published in the "Handbook for Public Playground Safety." This 47-page publication is available for download as a large PDF file (3Mgb), free of charge, at their CPSC web site The hand book provides clear requirements for the need and standard of surfacing material as well as minimum safety zones around each piece of equipment.
